Today the city of Rome is recognized as one of the most important cities in history.  It is one of humanities first large civilizations and played a crucial role in the development of the western world.  Although the city still displays flashes of its ancient beauty, it was once a city filled with magnificent architecture  during its prime.  Nowadays when walking through Rome, many ruins can be seen and this can leave one wondering what these ruins looked like at the time of their construction.  This website aims at providing a way to see how these buildings looked in their prime.    



This website has been created with the goal of providing a view of how the Ancient city of Rome appeared during its prime.   The site will take you back into the time of the Roman Republic when the city was home to some of the grandest buildings in the world.  The basilicas, temples, forums, arches, mausoleums and many other structures of Rome are to be explored via the website.  The site provides a brief description of the models and each model has a KMZ file which can be opened in Google Earth.  The files can be found in the Dropbox which is located in the drop down menu tab.



As the purpose of the site is to provide a way to explore Ancient Rome, start by taking a look at the various buildings in the menu bar above! Each page describes the various building types and what the specific buildings themselves were used.  If a particular models spikes your interest, head over to the Dropbox and download the model. Once downloaded the model can be opened in Google Earth and let the exploration begin.  Once open in Google Earth a variety of viewing options are available.  A 360 degree view can be used and is very easy to manipulate.  Zooming in and out of the model allow details to be seen up close and the street view function makes it seem like you're standing right outside the buildings of Ancient Rome.
